Not unless they are programmed to understand something as ''experience'' and to adapt their behaviour in the light of it.

For example, a good piece of chess software might know that the last time it played a particular combination of moves, it lost eventually. So it might include this ''experience'' in deciding what moves to make in a similar position in future.

Not the computers but programmers learn from experience and they keep modifying the program as per requirement
unfortunatly no. although u can program them 2.

Microsoft Computers.

Apple's main core is built upon Unix, which is much more secure than what Windows is built upon.

Which is more virus prone: Apple Computers or Microsoft Computers?software

Yeah I've always heard that PC's (comps running Windows) have 99% of viruses directed at em. I use Vista and at the moment am researching on how to keep it safe, there are ways. Both have their flaws but I've always heard that Mac's are safer...
It would definitely Micrsoft operating systems. This is due to the massive amounts of users and the security holes in most of the Windows OS'
obviously microsoft only windows. windows supports .exe files and virus are running on .exe files so microsoft computers are more risky
Apple or MAC computers use a system entirely different from windows...

Windows utilizes the use of a ''Registry'' which is something like a big log book which contains all the addresses of each file and which program uses them.

MAC on the other hand uses multiple files instead so even if a virus deletes a file, the system will still function.

Windows is more prone because once it's security is breached, one flick at the registry and it's all gone. Also, there are hundreds of thousands or millions of viruses for windows and only a few known for apple computers...
both are equally prone to viruses. The only difference is that there are more people actively looking for loopholes in the Microsoft system, and very few looking for loopholes in Apple's system.

Someone who know about computers???

Someone who know about computers???norton

Did he remove the music player? Sounds to me like you're missing windows media player, or quicktime. You need a program to play the music.

Someone who know about computers???spyware remover

Im not quite sure what your're asking, but I'll try. Im going to assume that you may not have either A) a media player downloaded to your computer or B) you may have a media device, ex. Ipod, that your computer is not recognizing. If it's A, I would recommend cnet.com which is a website that offers FREE downloads of all kinds. Including media players and audio production. Of course, Im basing this off of what I'm assuming about your question.
You have to download a media player - itunes, Windows media player, etc. Does it have swpeakers? If it doesn't, you can't jam.
you have to install a media device. if its windows get windows media player
install music player or quick time or both.
Open the PC's skin. Plug the Sound card tightly. Or try installing some software
We knida need to know how you are going about playing the music.

online, cd, etc.

You prolly need to install a software program that can play it. Windows has errything!!
You'll just have to marmalade

Sounds like the printer is not shared or/and they are not in the same work group. I see that others have given you good advice on how to fix this.

You will soon get frustrated by having to switch on the computer as well as the connected printer in order to print from your laptop. I would recommend that you get a printer server that will allow you to connect your printer directly to the router. I have used an Axis variant for many years and it still works well with my old Windows XP laptop and now with my new Vista laptop.

I cannot run 2 computers at home at the same time, plz help!?

I cannot run 2 computers at home at the same time, plz help!?photoshop

You need to find out if you provider (AT%26T) supports Dynamic or Static IP assignment. I am only familiar with cable modem connections, so if you have DSL it may be different, but any cable broadband provider that is worth a cent has dynamic IP assignment. If you have static you need to get the IPs from your provider and they should be able to walk you through setting them up. I am also assuming you have a Windows system, it would be different on a MAC so I need more info to give any specific hints. I find the MOST problems occur when using a desktop/tower CPU with a version of Windows BEFORE Vista, such as XP, Me, of 2000, and a laptop with wireless Vista. FYI, Vista absolutely hates being networked with non-vista machines. If you have two different Windows OSes and one of them is Vista, I recommend you upgrade the other machine to Vista as well as a first step.

I know computers and the Internet was invented by the British when did Americans become connected on

I know computers and the Internet was invented by the British when did Americans become connected online?pop up blocker

I was told the internet actually began around the mid 1940's as a military secret - a network designed so that if one site was destroyed the network could continue to operate. If so, you're ALL WRONG! ha ha

PS If they're speaking English maybe they're not real Americans at all!

PPS Perhaps America is a fiction too!

My god your thinking is almost infectious!

I know computers and the Internet was invented by the British when did Americans become connected online?systemworks

Let the Americans think they invented the jet engine, radar, DNA profiling, the microwave, enigma cracking and so on. They need to feel good about themselves having elected Bush. That is most understandable.

Meanwhile, we'll carry on with more inventions for the world and give the technology away. We don't need the money. Oh, and the Americans can claim those if they want to.

(And Janet is a secret British agent, aren't you Mrs Moneypenny?)
    Haha..........
Ummm Al gore invented the internet and everyone else jumped on the bandwagon. So it was America first then the british. The exact date was june 6th 1986.
I thought Al Gore invented the Internet, just before he invented Global Warming.
we are finally catching up, do you limeys still own India.?
What??? By the British? Wrong!! The US Department of Defense (DOD) had a hand in creating what we now know as the internet. It started out as ARPA, or ARPANet (Advanced Research Projects Agency), eventually renamed to DARPANet (Devense Advanced Research Projects Agency) in 1971. That was when the DOD worked with a company called BBN (My daughter worked for this company (a backbone provider) as a network engineer in later years under a different name and knew the history well). Development began in 1969, or that's when BBN won the contract to do the work. BBN developed the @ sign for using in e-mail, which came much later. But they worked with the DOD to develop communications, which became IRC (Internet relay chat), which is still in use today. The DOD was still the sole owner of IRC until I think the early 90's. It's a chat program this still quite widely used. I use it myself. BBN became part of one of GE's operations, then split out on their own, unfortunately, under yet another name ''Genuity''. They did quite well for a while. It didn't help when they built and moved into very high-tech, state-of-the-art facility nearby in Massachusetts (Boston area). Not long after, that part the industry started having problems everywhere. High paid employees with inflated salaries because they were in such demand at the time, gradually started getting laid off over a 2-3 year period.
Apparently the abacus was the earliest and most simplified way of 'computing' mathematical problems thousands of years ago in China.

But the West did it's bit to bring it up to date in the 20th century.

Now in the 21st century, look out. The Chinese will be making and selling them around the world like wild fire.

Are reconditioned computers any good?product key

I would say it depends. You may save a little money but what you are buying is probably either a laptop that someone has ordered/bought, didn't like it and took it back. This would probably be ok. What you don't want to buy is a 3 month old laptop that's been on display/demo for the last 3 months at 11 hours a day.

My advice to you would be to put the money towards a NEW machine from somewhere like ebuyer. I got my machine from there new, for the same price that pc world were advertising as reconditioned.

Whatever you buy don't buy a packard bell, advent or dell. Buy a decent brand such as HP, Compaq or Acer. We have 2 acers in our family and they are excellent machine. We have a cheap 拢400 Acer 3692wlmi and a super fast dual core 5612wlmi.

The 3692 is great for surfing the net, office etc and is 拢369 form ebuyer. The 5612 is now 拢449 from comet.

    Are reconditioned computers any good?triumph

    Yep!
They are as good as the guarantee that comes with them.
You could buy a copy of Micro Mart computer magazine, it's only 拢1.99 and you will find numerous adverts. There are some excellent bargains in reconditioned as new laptops with a full warranty. Also a lot of brand new at discount prices. It's also a good magazine if you want to know a little more about how things work. Hope this helps
some of them are. I bought a lap top and it is fine. I have a friend that bought a reconditioned one and he has had nothing but trouble.

Anyone else have problems with HP/Compaq computers?

I have a Compaq Presario that has proven to be a very expensive and mostly useless paperweight. From day one, I have had NOTHING but problems with this computer. EVERYTHING has gone wrong with it and their ''tech support'' whether it is online or through the phone is all in India and Mexico. Connecting two computers without a hub/switch/router?

Hi I want to connect 2 computers together so that they can share a single internet connection between them can any body tell me ho to do that...............

Connecting two computers without a hub/switch/router?spyware removal

If both PCs have a Firewire (IEEE 1394) connection you can buy a matching cable. Then designate one of the PCs as gateway (turn on Internet Connection Sharing in Control Panel/Networks).

Special networking USB cables are available but they are not reliable, slow, and expensive. The upside is that almost every PC has a USB connection.

The other option is providing the gateway PC with two networking cards and using a crossover ethernet cable between them. This is very reliable and fast, but expensive.

Your best choice is to just go out and buy a simple router. Not only does this make access very easy and reliable, you also get the benefit of a simple firewall to protect you from internet attacks.

Connecting two computers without a hub/switch/router?virus protection software

    use an ethernet cable
router, get a wireless router and a wireless usb card. Make sure your router will hold more than one port. I personally use the linksys wireless - n router and its the best.
go get a cross over cable. connect them together. make sure its a cross over!!!
    Yep...

Just use a crossover cable. They are specifically designed for computer to computer connection.

But keep in mind that you will need two ethernet cards in the computer that is directly connected to the internet and that sharing internet connections over a crossover cable is usually more hassle than it is worth.
    Get a router
You can put a wireless card in both computers. If only one computer has internet access then you can share that computer's internet connection. The other computer can access the internet via wireless card to the ''host'' computer that should be left on for this to work.

Can your computers history delete itself?norton internet security

Yes, if he is using Internet Explorer. You can go to Tools, Internet Options, General tab and check the History section for the number of days pages are kept in history. Also if he runs a cache cleaning tool, he may be deleting them without realizing it.

Can your computers history delete itself?spyware remove

No you must do it, go to start..control panel double clcick internet options and delete files now lok al the way down to the bottom of that window and click delete everything.

    Problem solved
Yes it is possible. There is a setting in Firefox to clean all the temporary internet files every time it closes. And in Internet Explorer you can set it not to record history.
Well, you can set your computer to delete all of your history automatically after a day, but if this happens every single time, then I would say that he's deleting HIS history. Of course he knows why it's happening, lol. I'm sure that he doesn't want to lie about the content he's looking at, but he also doesn't want to admit it to you either. From personal experience, believe me when I say that you don't want to see what he's looking at either! If you have importaint websites that you access from the history, then you could just bookmark them, so that it doesn't matter if the history gets deleted. Until then, try not to give him a hard time about this, because it will make him NOT want to be open with you about anything at all. Try to be understanding that guys are guys, and they WILL look at things online that turn them on. Porn is a tool for men, rather than something that is a necessity for them. Sometimes their imagination just doesn't cut it for them. One thing you've GOT to remember is that it doesn't replace you. NO MAN WITH A PULSE would choose pictures over the real thing. It took me a long time to realize that, but once I did, it made mine and my husband's relationship just THAT MUCH better. I hope that I could help...
it depends what history exactly you're referring to but NO!!! Even when you deliberately format (which is erase!!) every thing on your hard drive on purpose, there would be absolutely no way for you to sign on, you wouldn't have a single thing on your computer. Except it's really not even totally erased for those who have the desire (or need, like in law enforcement or someone who's far too snoopy with too much time looking for something that's none of their business anyway!) there is still something on that hard drive!

  • Running two computers on one internet line?

We now have TWO desktop computers in one house. But we only have one cable dsl box and line, and we have a router. Is it possible to somehow run BOTH computers on the one internet line? And if so any suggestions would be so helpful.

Running two computers on one internet line?norton

Since you are using a router then it's simple. You'll need a CAT 5 cable long enough to go from the network card on your second computer to your router. Once that's done reboot your system so that the computer sees you are connected to the router and your router should assign your second computer an IP address and you should be able to go out on the internet

Running two computers on one internet line?spyware remover

Of course you can. From your description you appear to have all the parts needed.

The internet feed from your ISP is terminated with a modem than has an ethernet hand off. This should be pugged into the WAN (or Internet as the name may be) port of the Router. If the router has only one LAN port, you will need a network switch. You plug the LAN port of the router to the network switch and you plug each pc's LAN port into other ports of the network switch. In all cases you use straight CAT5 patch cables. Now if your router has more than one LAN port, it actually is a switch / router and you do not need a separate network switch - just connect the pcs to the LAN ports.

Make sure you have properly configured the Router as the manual will direct you. You should now be able to access the Internet from both pcs and share files between the pcs.

If you are having a problem with one or more pc, review the router configuration steps as this is where the problem is.

Keep in mind that you must shut off the modem for at least 0.5 minutes before you connect the router to the modem. After at least 0.5 min after starting the modem, you can start up the router; also wait at least 0.5 min after starting the router to start the pcs.

    Bluetooth on Computers?

Im buying a new computer rite now, and they asked me if i wanted bluetooth on it. What would it be used for on computers??

    Bluetooth on Computers?nortonantivirus

If it is a desktop, then no, desktops dont come with bluetooth.

If it is a laptop, you have two options:

with Bluetooth, perhaps you pay $20-30 dollars more with a built-in bluetooth device.

    Choose not to have bluetooth:

you can buy a bluetooth USB dongle for $7-10 dollars on eBay yourself. you must plug in the dongle for Bluetooth to work.

it depends on what you expect to use it for. If you want to connect your phone to your pc wirelessly for file transfer or you have a pair of Bluetooth A2DP headphones for music then perhaps you'll want Bluetooth built in. If you use Bluetooth infrequently for the occasional contact sync on your mobile then go for the dongle option.

Bluetooth is used mostly for connectivity between mobile devices, you can't use it for internet like a 801bg wireless network.

    Bluetooth on Computers?spyware

yes get it. if you have a phone with bluetooth you can use it to transfer stuff such as pics, audio and vids. you may even be able to use a stereo bluetooth headset instead of headphones on ur pc.

try this if you have for questions

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bluetooth
The main use of Bluetooth is for wireless keyboards, a wireless mouse, wireless speakers etc. It has a very short range, maybe 25 feet max in good weather. It is not used for wireless internet.
don't buy one with a bluetooth because its NOT a bluetooth its only an on and off switch when the bluetooth device is plugged into the usb port, i think these manufactures want suing misleading the public making them think its an actual bluetooth device

Can i network two computers without a floppy drive?

Can i network two computers without a floppy drive?noton

You don't really need to use the network setup wizard disk.

Make sure both computers are part of the same workgroup and they will be able to communicate (ie: networked)

Can i network two computers without a floppy drive?stinger

They have to be running the same operating system. If you have one XP and one Vista you can use the XP cd ro run the setup wizard on Vista. Otherwise you gotta have a floppy.
On both machines, right click my computer then click properties. Click the computer name tab then click the change button. Input a name for each computer then click workgroup and name them the same workgroup. Then you can right click files that you want to share and set up the sharing option.
plug the printer into one of the computers install the software, log on to that computer, and assuming it's windows 2000 or newer, open up your printers folder in the control panel, right click on the printers icon, select properties, and turn on sharing. You may have to reboot both computers, maybe not, but the other computer should see a printer. Xp or better, it will automatically see the printer on the other computer, might ask for a driver disk. after that you should be good.
Yes...the reason it asks about floppy drives is..the network wizard has the option of saving your settings from one computer to the other one, on the floppy disc...instead of you doing it manually.

Make sure both machiones have the same workgroup name. check this by right-clicking on My Computer %26gt; Properties %26gt; computer Name...Click change button if necessary. Good idea to disable Windows firewall while configuring your network.
yea. just run the network setup wizard in the control panel under network connections
You really don't need a floppy drive for networking... I don't know what that was about.

How can i see Traffic from other Users-Computer? Hm, hard to explain... so: There are 5 Computers in our network (We have a SpeedTouch 510 Router) and we can download in month 10Gb, but, for example my brother download 6Gb, that isnt fair for the other ones, not? So how can i have a look, how much this people download? I dont think that this is illegal because i only use it for our home.Is there a programm out there or something like that? I mean, there are so many programms to look at the Traffic for my own computer from a SNMP server (router), so there must be something, not?

Anyway, i hope you understand me, and i do nothing wrong, but we have controll that traffic problem...

    so please help :%26#125;

Watch Traffic from Other Computers?product key

Looking at the spec for the router -- it looks like it have a management interface -- so my first suggestion is to look at manual for the router to see if the SMNP interface or the HTTP interface have counters for the amount of traffic from each machine.

Otherwise there are programs such as tcpdump on Linux which will allow you to sniff all packet that are broadcast on the network -- however if you and your brother are connected to different ports on the hub-then the traffic may not be broadcast at all.

If so, you can only do one of two things:

Either get a different switch with a management protocol that measure the amount of traffic per port, or

Alternatively, get a different (unlimited) package from your ISP

    Networking Distant Computers?

I am trying to network two offices that are 150 miles apart. I have been told to use a VPN router to best accomplish this but I am not sure how I can do this. In my new office there is only 1 computer at the second, and it has a static ip address on a cable modem. My main office has 3 computers networked together sharing a cable modem. I need to be able to set up a Map drive from my server in my main office that can be used by a program in my new office. Please email me with any specifics you need to give a best answer. Thanks!

    Networking Distant Computers?software

    Two easy options for you.

    One http://www.hamachi.cc/

a software VPN client that will allow you to create a logical VPN connection from PC to PC

    Second

Buy two Linksys RVL200 VPN routers.

Replace the router servicing the 3 computers and put the second single machine behind one of these. Once you set these up via the web GUI they will automatically VPN to each other and all the machines should see each other like they were in the same room. This is nice because you can add and remove machines with very little configuration or setup. Secondly this is the fast of the two options since the router does all the encryption and decryptions.

Caviats!: You IP address may change, unless you are paying for static IP address from your ISP. If this happens the tunnel will be broken because each RVL200 needs to know the distant end IP address of each other.

Connect two computers wirelessly - i need to know step by step. please help.?

Both computers are xp (one home and one prof.). All i really want is to file share. both are connected to a WLAN router. Both are laptops - one dell with full Wifi and one Toshiba with a bluetooth adapter. what settings do i have to change so that the files that i have cleared for sharing can be seen with the other computer? i apologize in advance for the dumb question, but i am stuck!

Connect two computers wirelessly - i need to know step by step. please help.?spyware removal

First of all it is not posible to connect your laptop specifically, your toshiba, to a router via bluetooth adapter as you have mentioned above. But assuming, base from what you have said, both your laptop is capable of Wireless Local Area Network (WLAN) meaning they have both a wireless adapter

First, make sure that both computer are in the same workgroup. Read the instruction below on how to check and change workgroup.

    Note: Perform on both computer.

    To Check:

Right-Click My Computer -%26gt; Properties -%26gt; Click Computer

Name Tab. Compare Workgroup value if it has the

same value as the other computer in your network if not read

    below.

    To Change:

Click the Change button under Computer Name Tab -%26gt; Select

Workgroup and specify a value. Be sure that it has the same value as the other computer -%26gt; Restart both PC's

Which NEW computers will still run WindowsXP and it's compatible programs, since I'm told

If I need to buy a new computer and I want it to run WindowsXP, what is my choice if computers with Vista are no longer compatible with the programs that work with my XP? (I'd like to buy stock in that company, lol)

Which NEW computers will still run WindowsXP and it's compatible programs, since I'm told Vista will not?spyware remove

The problem isn't finding a new computer which can run Windows XP. Any computer that can run Vista can also run Windows XP. The problem is finding a new computer with Windows XP pre installed. These days, the vast majority of computer vendors are selling their computers with Windows Vista pre installed, which means you need to buy a copy of Windows XP - that's an extra $100. Some vendors are holding out and continue to sell computers with Windows XP and not Vista pre installed, though Microsoft wants this to stop by year's end. To the best of my knowledge, Dell is one of the few vendors who are still selling computers with Windows XP pre installed.

Which NEW computers will still run WindowsXP and it's compatible programs, since I'm told Vista will not?virus protection

Dell will still sell you a computer with XP, so I would go there if this is what you want. But just as a piece of information, almost all programs that run in XP will work in Vista, I know this becasue unlike a lot of people who spread this rumor about Vista, I actually own it and use it. I attempted to install about 100 programs in it designed for XP, and only 1 did not work, and it was a very small and old program that hadn't been update with a Vista driver.
    All can still run XP.

    Don't listen to bs.
forget vista...just use xp, rest is marketingnonsense

    Network two computers using modem?

Can I connect two computers using their modems? What should I do? I have two computers which are located of about 150 meters away. I know it is impractical to use LAN cable to connect them. And I don't want to use wireless LAN. What exactly should I do? Can I use telephone line? Just line...

Network two computers using modem?spyware remover

Even if you could get two modems to talk together using a long crossover telephone line with no dial-tone, I doubt there'd be any useful networking protocols that would work across the link.

You'd be better off with a straight ''null-modem'' serial cable (no actual modems, just COM1 ports). I know that XP has (had?) a ''Direct Cable Connection'' under Network Connections, New Connection Wizard, Advanced Connection, but it isn't active for me.

You'd have to put male DB9 connectors (using pins 3, 4 and 9, I think. Look it up!) on the ends of a wire (could be phone wire or Cat5.) Be sure and test it before you invest too heavily in pulling a cable!

    Good Luck.

Network two computers using modem?virus removal

Ok install a NIC (Network interface Card) in each computer then use a crossover cable. (Network cable can go up to 500Metres before a repeater is needed)
    peer to peer network
Just because you WANT to do something doesn't mean that it's practical or advisable.

Buy a couple of $10 network cards and a $5 hub off of ebay and do it right.
I assume that the 'Modems' you refer to are phone line modems.

They will not connect to each other. To connect to each other you need a common access point (Router, Hub, etc.). This will require a network adapter and a router or hub.

Otherwise to connect to the internet as independent PC's you need a second phone line or only one in use at a time.

    Good Luck

I love computers. I love them so much I'm thinking of studying something computer related in college, not sure what it is yet. I Don't really know the difference between computer science and computer engineering and what not. I really need some help.

What's a better major for the future, Computer Science or Sometime of engineering for computers?suzuki

Computer Science (CS) mainly deals with software (basic and advance programming, operating systems, theories of computing, etc.) while Computer Engineering (CE) deals with mainly the hardware components of the computer (circuits, electronic devices, etc.). Computer Engineering is, in many ways, parallel to Electrical Engineering.

Even though CS handles software and CE handles hardware, you'll still learn some basics of circuits in CS and some programming in CE.

Despite the differences, both Computer Science and Engineering depend on each other. Without software, the computer is nothing but an empty shell and without hardware, software cannot exist.

I think the engineer thing would be prettty cool simply b/c engineers are really an in demand career.

What is considered technical assistance when it comes to computers?

I was terminated for the allegation of an inmate providing technical assistance on a state computer. In reality the inmates had been allowed to use a free standing computer for years to input culinary and inmate property info. We copied the programs and put them into the staff computers. None of the staff members knew how to use the property program. I was the property officer for 3 months before I knew of the property program. I wanted to use it and thought it would be a great aid for property. The inmate showed me how to use the program. That is what I was terminated for. The regulation reads: An inmate shall not be called upon under any cicumstance to provide technical assistance or otherwise assist staff with the resolution or attempted resolution of any computer problems, computer system problems.

The problem I am having is that the computer was not broken. nothing technical happened, we were in transition from inmate to officer use. No training provided for this program.

What is considered technical assistance when it comes to computers?symatec

Any interpretation involving computers is technical assistance. Nevertheless, you can file a protest for illegal dismissal if the allegation is not true or very technical to merit a termination.

Networking 24 computers together (business)--looking for other options and ideas?

Question says it all... I am starting a small business where I must network 24 computers together... I have a couple of options on the table, but I would like to see if anyone has any ideas.

    1. They must all be networked in one network

    2. The connection must be fast (not fast for internet, just for the network)

    3. All 24 computers must be able to be on the network simultaneously (this is a must)

I am using Cat6 unshielded wiring (thanks to location and business type, shielded is not a necessity). Performance is key issue, so all suggestions are greatly appreciated.

Networking 24 computers together (business)--looking for other options and ideas?trojan

There's NO WAY I'd suggest wireless - it's subject to interference from everything from cordless phones to microwaves and other devices. Further, even when there is no interference, you typically see AT BEST 60% of the advertised performance. So a 54 Mb G router would see perhaps 30 Mbit throughput.

A wired connection using even 100 Mbit NICs would perform better, typically seeing 80% throughput, or almost 3x the performance of wireless. (TYPICALLY - your milage may vary).

I would suggest, if network performance is a top priority, get a QUALITY server with a SERVER CLASS Network Adapter and a MANAGED Gigabit Network Switch. Plug AT LEAST the server into a Gigabit port on the switch - the workstations can do 100 Mbit, though you can do Gigabit on them too (costs will be higher if you use an all Gigabit switch).

Are Dell Computers only proprietary to Dell Monitors?vincent

Monitors are interchangeable. They use the standard VGA, DVI, or HDMI connections.

I work in a lab with a mix of Dell, HP, IBM, Sun, and even some old Gateway computers and we setup a wide variety of hardware configurations.

No. I gave my father a 19'' flat Dell monitor for his HP computer. It worked just fine. No problems!

Also, my husband has a flat non-Dell monitor brand for his Dell computer and again, no problems whatsoever!
no itys not true, not only ...but you have to pay attention what type of connection you have old standard VGA, or any other connectionm DVI or other
one of my friends has a dell monitor hooked up to his Mac, the only issue you have to worry about is the type of connections both pieces have (VGA, DVI, etc) and even then there are adapters you can use.

    Good luck.

How many computers a modem can ''carry''?adware

You can use a router. They will tell you that you can't but you can. Even if there is MAC address security all you have to do is read in your routers help manual how to clone the mac address of the primary pc. Then COX's network will see your router as your primary pc and will never know about the second one. They will not help you do this, but it is perfectly legal as long as you are paying for at least one connection.
Hm... It seems like you could use a router. I did not get enough details from your set up. but here is a typical scenario. The modem is the main internet entrance. By connecting it to a router it will open up more ports so that you can in theory use it to connect to more computers. Thus, by passing the need to get more modems. I did some research because I actually never did a cable Network setup but it is not too different from a regular network. Just slightly different. So here you go. Are you ready for this? :%26gt;)

This amazes me as they have been running Windows XP all year. Not only that, but there is no icon in the task bar saying to activate Windows. Is it illegal for the school to do this? The latest version of Bootcamp that comes with Leopard runs great. It doesn't hurt or slow down the computer. You have to install your own copy of XP or Vista, they are not included. Latest test show that Vista runs faster on a Mac than on a PC. You would need to install an anti-virus program on the Windows side, that would slow the computer down a bit.

Hooking 2 computers together for game?viruses

You would use a cross over cable between the network cards of the CPU's which you should be able to get at radio shack. Also the CPU's should be on the same networks.

    Example

IP Addr 192.168.1.1 for CPU 1

IP Addr 192.168.1.2 for CPU 2

    subnet mask of 255.255.255.0

Hooking 2 computers together for game?antispam

cross over for similar devices, straight through if u have a hub/switch in the middle. Run the network wizard and it will take care of IP addresses. Report It

Well, basically you can buy a cable, although there are a lot of wireless options now, then after you conect the two computers, don't worry, your computer has only one jack that will fix with the inlet of this cable.

then go on Windows Xp where it says ''Create a small lan or bussness'', folow the instructions, basically just let the things as prederterninated, at the end say no to create a diskette.

Repeat the procedure in the other computer, restart and this would be all.
You need an ethernet cable and you just attatch it to the ethernet port. Ethernet is the phone cord type connector, but it has more prongs so the ends are longer.

5 computers and an unlimited number of iPods. There's a workaround though:

Burn the song onto a CD using iTunes. Insert the CD back into the computer and import the song back into iTunes, now your newly imported song is DRM free and ready to be on an unlimited number of computers and iPods.

as many as you want if you take apple's protection off the itunes, and move/copy them to a windows folder.
    i want to say 5
The itunes digital rights management system allows you to play your song on up to 5 different computers.

That said, itunes has the ability to deauthorize old computers and reset the count of machines.
    3-5 i believe/ go to iTunes-FAQ
You can have your same account on up to 5 computers. If you exceed that, I recommend that you burn all your songs on a disc and do it that way. You will have to put all the song names and stuff which might take a while.

how about setting up a RAID 5 Array with about eight 40GB hard drives which are practically dirt cheap and a RAID 5 Array with eight 40s is much more reliable than a single 320GB hard drive because it costs more to replace a 320 than a single 40GB and not only that RAID 5 is so cool that if one drive is to fail you can pretty much toss it and get a new one and not even lose any data...

But anyways thats one of my projects...

will school computer will upgrade to vista? i got to my school and we got vista optional computers?

Would schools computers will upgrade windows vista?abtuvurys 2005

That just means they have enough memory to support Vista. I think schools will be slow to convert because it is expensive. It will make them able to do a lot of nice things (like Macs do now). They will be safer like Macs too (so maybe there will be some incentive to switch).

Would schools computers will upgrade windows vista?antivirus programs

Hmm....well most school computers aren't compatible with WIndows Vista, but the ones that are within a Year or two they might switch to Vista because i'm sure the security on it would be phoneminal
I think there is no need to upgrade.

Also, in order to upgrade to vista and work properly, you need to change the harder of the PCs so a bigger budget for the school with no real direct interest.

Vista is good for DirectX 10 etc... and besides graphics and games, I guess you wont need that kinf of stuff at school ;)

    so my opinio, NO UPGRADES
There are a lot of things to think about when upgrading networked computers like your computers at school, so probably not for a while.
u have to ask ur school

but the answer might not be positive as win vista require HUGE memory to run and great display capabilities
Only if they have the money and the school board allows it.
    it depends.
Don think so. First it's gonna be troublesome for them and it's gonna involve some $$. Second, the security in vista aint real tight...(as far as i noe)
mabyee in schools that have the money, but windows xp will continue for quite a while .

If you still decide to purchase one now, see if it available for upgrading to windows VISTA. Hope my advice helps.

    I want to sell computers.?

I build my own computers from parts I purchase. I would like to start selling them on Ebay and such, if possible. I want to sell the computers with Windows installed. Does this mean i have to sell the computer with Windows installed, and buy one brand new copy of windows with every PC that I want to sell. Please leave regards as to what other technicalities that I would have to look out for if I am able to do this.

I want to sell computers.?antivirus software

Here's the deal (from someone who's done it): companies like Dell, Gateway, HP... well, you get the idea, buy millions of parts, every month... so how much cheaper do you think you can buy your mobo, or video card for, than they do? Answer... you can't! Think about the time %26 cost at building a machine (about a $3000 machine can be built for half or less) but can you sell it for that $3000? Ans. NO! why? becuase (and this is where they kill us) the Monitors, Keyboards, speakers, etc). They also get those things for pennies on the dollar; we just plain can't, and it's difficult to compete! Now, selling on Ebay? it's a crap shoot. You may be able to get good deal on monitors, buying in bulk, but can you compete with users who don't know the difference? no! That's why these companies can advertise absolute crap computers for $499 or less, and ppl will buy them... then complain that their systems are slooooooow.

Back in the 1990's we went from 100Mhz to about 1.1Ghz. I could easily see the progress computers were making back then. Now, every time I check the latest computers they all top out at around 3.06Ghz. Surely, I MUST be missing something?

Why have computers been stuck at around 3 gigahertz for years now? And where's Pentium 5,6,7 etc?anti virus scan

Well there are physical limitations on how fast a clock signal can be. I think both AMD and Intel realized that you can improve the speed of a CPU without adding more speed to the clock. They are improving on things like true threading of execution and shortening of execution pipes. To prove the point, a 1.5 Ghz Intel Pentium M processor was ''faster'' than a 3.0 Ghz Pentium 4. I don't think you'll see another clock speed jump anytime soon but you will see faster CPUs.

Why have computers been stuck at around 3 gigahertz for years now? And where's Pentium 5,6,7 etc?ariel

Yes, AMD made the jump for 64 bit processors, and Intel is still behind somehow. In the meanwhile, Microsoft came out with XP 64bit, so the trend will go in that direction. Belive me, 3 GHz is too much power for too many applications today...
the Pentium 5 and 6 if you will are the dual core and Pentium extreme processors check out Intel.com for all the info
Newest processors that I have seen being sold are running around 3.7MHz (Intel Pentium Extreme Edition 965 Presler 1066MHz FSB LGA 775 Processor Model BX80553965). The main reason why in my opinion as why they have not jumped up higher like you were describing is that there has been a lot of development into 64 bit processors verses the standard 32 bit that most systems run on today. The technological jump from moving from 32 to 64 bit processors is light years higher then continuing to make 32 bit processors running at 4-8 Ghz by increasing the allowed RAM for a computer from 4GB today to ''17,179,869,184 gigabytes or 16 exabytes of RAM''!!!!!!!!

I have 2 desktop computers, and 2 laptop computers, I want a wireless connection, what do I need to

I want all 4 of these computers to be connected to the internet. Do I need an adaptor for each computer?

I have 2 desktop computers, and 2 laptop computers, I want a wireless connection, what do I need to purchase?anti virus software

    Hi,

You would need a wireless router (connects through USB port) for the computer that the internet comes directly through from your ISP, and wireless adapters for all the other computers. Some laptops have built in wireless networking features, and you could just enable those to get wireless internet on them after installing the wireless router. You would need an adapter for each of the computers that do not have built-in wireless networking capabilities, excluding the one that is directly connected to the internet line, and for that one you would need a router.

You probably also want a relatively fast internet connection because if you do not have one, it would make the wireless connection very slow, and it would not give very good internet on any of the computers, because the bandwidth of the internet connection would be distributed between multiple computers. Hope this helps!

The Internet connection sharing service on the host must be running.

There is a wizard that can help you do this. It is under programs, accessories.

Run this on the host only or it's a real mess to reconfigure.

In control panel, Internet connections, disable file and print sharing and client for Microsoft networks on the host only. On the advanced tab, enable the firewall and connection sharing.

On the clients, in control panel, network and Internet connections, make sure the TCP/IP protocol is installed.

Select properties and select obtain an IP address automatically.

There are lots opportunities for problems in network setup, far to many to list here but chances are good this will work if the network cards in all the machines are Windows compliant.

Don't forget you also need to set up shares to be able to access each others files or disks.

Is there a way to network computers so that you can play music from any of the computers?bmw

    same difference
Absolutely. There is no one way. If you have computers on a network, turn on file sharing on each. At that point you can access the playlist from any PC on the network. Use the Windows network setup wizard to accomplish this.
you can use lan or wifi to network your computers and you can share your music with your sharing folders for all information about wifi networking go to http://www.wifilegends.6x.to
I believe you can use a LAN (Local Area Network) hub to do what you want. I have never had the need to use one, but if you ask a local computer store in your area, they should be able to help you get the equipment, and with setup. Just make sure to put your music into shared files on all the computers. You could also use memory sticks to transfer music file between computers, which would probably be a cheaper alternative to a LAN hub. Of course, if you have ohter uses for network the computers, like multiplayer gaming, go with the hub. That would be good for LAN parties.

How many computers can a Windows XP Profesional OEM license support?

Currently i am going to setup a small office involving 15 computers. Is there necessary for me to buy 15 OEM license of Windows XP Profesional or i just need to buy one and then install to all 15 computers? And, is there any 'group license' that will be cheaper then 15 OEM license? Thanks.

How many computers can a Windows XP Profesional OEM license support?antivirus downloads

using the same license for all 15 computers is not wise because Microsoft recently updated their Windows genuine advantage program to exclude the other 14 computers from getting updates. The program then accuses you of piracy, and posts signs all over your computer that ''this copy of windows may be counterfeit (including posting signs on the boot and lo gin screens)

it may be sensible to go with a version of Linux, depending on the needs of the office.

    has information of volume licensing.
Realistically, you only need one, however that IS illegal and constitutes software piracy and could end up costing much more that the 15 licenses. How do I set up a network between 6 computers when two don't have a floppy drive?

I had a network set up, but then my family moved, and we rewired everything. Then 4 of the computers had their hard-drives wiped and we bought another. I have 6 in total. How do I put them all on the network again? Should I delete whatever broken connections I have between the computers?
