Go to 'My Network Places' and on the sidebar click 'Set up a home or small office network'. When given the options about connection methods, tick 'This computer connect to the Internet through a residental gateway or through another computer on my network.'

When prompted tick 'Turn on file and printer sharing'. Then 'Just finish the wizard;'. That should work. You may have to disable Windows Firewall to get the file sharing to work correctly.

You need to set up fixed IP addresses, because DHCP wont work as there is no DHCP server in the network. For setting up fixed IP, you have to go to Control Panel-%26gt;Network and Dialup Connections -%26gt; Lan Connection / Properties -%26gt; TCP/IP -%26gt;Properties.

You have to set up 192.168.1.1, netmask 255.255.255.0, gateway 192.168.1.2 on one machine. On the other one 192.168.1.2 netmask 255.255.255.0 gateway 192.168.1.1.
